How Wayfinder Nook came about
Wayfinder Nook opened in Kelana Jaya in early 2022 after a simple observation: many residents in Petaling Jaya knew exactly what outcome they needed — a renewed document, a form submitted, a local programme enrolled — but had no reliable way to figure out which office to visit, what to bring, or how to prepare. The information existed somewhere; it just wasn't in one place.
Our founders had worked in community development and public administration for a combined twenty years. They'd seen how a single confident conversation before a counter visit could save a person two wasted half-days. That observation became the founding idea: a small centre whose only job is to make that conversation available to anyone who wants it.
We are not a government office and we do not process applications. We are an orientation and information centre — a rest stop on the way to wherever you actually need to go.
Our mission
To make everyday public services approachable for everyone in Selangor — regardless of how long they've lived here, how familiar they are with official processes, or how comfortable they feel walking into a government building alone.
Clarity over complexity
Every piece of guidance we give is translated into plain, step-by-step language with no jargon.
Respect for the person
No one should feel embarrassed about not knowing how a public system works. We treat every question as a reasonable one.
Honest scope
We tell people what we can and can't help with from the start. We don't overreach into legal, immigration, or financial territory.
The people you'll meet at Wayfinder Nook
Nurul Rashidah
Centre Director & Senior Information Officer
Twelve years in community services across Selangor. Nurul set up the centre's session structure and trains all incoming information officers on scope, communication style, and referral protocols.
Chen Wei Liang
Programme Coordinator
Coordinates the Youth Civic Basics cohorts and the employer orientation calendar. Wei Liang's background is in secondary education, and he writes all printed workbooks and route card templates used in sessions.
Sree Valli
Information Officer
Handles one-to-one sessions and the weekly B2B helpdesk hours. Sree Valli is fluent in English, Tamil, and Bahasa Malaysia, and has particular familiarity with Selangor's community registration processes.
How we make sure every session is useful
Scope boundaries, clearly stated
Every session begins with a brief explanation of what we cover and what falls outside our scope. No confusion, no unexpected referrals at the end of an hour.
Written route cards for every one-to-one
Verbal guidance is easy to forget under stress. Every individual session ends with a printed, step-by-step card the person can carry to the counter.
Content reviewed regularly
Public service procedures change. Our information officers update route card templates and workbooks whenever a relevant process or form changes at the local or federal level.
Personal data handled with care
We collect only what's needed to arrange your session. Information shared during a visit is not passed to third parties and is stored securely in line with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
Multilingual delivery
Sessions are available in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, and Tamil. We match clients with officers who can work comfortably in their preferred language.
Post-session feedback collected
We follow up with a short feedback form after each session. The responses shape how we revise our materials and train new officers throughout the year.
Citizen assistance centres occupy a specific and practical place in a community. They sit between the individual — who knows what they want to accomplish — and the public institution — which has a process, a queue, and a list of required documents. Wayfinder Nook exists in that space.
Our work is orientation. We help individuals understand which public body handles a specific matter, what the typical steps look like, and what to prepare before showing up. For young people, we go a step further: our Youth Civic Basics Programme builds the underlying knowledge and confidence that makes future counter visits easier to handle independently.
For employers, the orientation service addresses a common operational challenge: staff who are new to the Klang Valley area spend a disproportionate amount of time in their first weeks sorting out practical everyday matters — transport cards, neighbourhood utilities, community registration — because no one has given them a clear picture of how local services are organised. Our Newcomer Orientation handles that picture-building, so your team can focus on work from week one.
We are based in Kelana Centre Point, a central location within walking distance of the Kelana Jaya LRT station and served by several Rapid KL bus routes. Clients from Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Damansara, and central Kuala Lumpur visit us regularly. We are open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, and Saturday mornings until 1 pm.
